Spinnen

Arachne incurred the wrath of the Greek gods because she realistically depicted their violence against women on tapestries and publicly addressed them in her workshop. As punishment, she was transformed into a spider – her courageous solidarity and feminist action serves as the inspiration for the participatory installation “Spinnen” by deufert&plischke. Amid family photos, embroidery and collages, the artists question traditional models of family and society and devise new forms of living together along with their audience. The installation will continually grow through the traces left behind by visitors, and through conversations, encounters and movements in the space.  The installation can be visited during the opening hours. The workshops will take place by appointment and are aimed at all those who want to weave new social images together.

Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke live and work in Berlin. Over the last 18 years, they have realized numerous dance and art projects in Berlin, throughout Germany and internationally.  As artistic twins, deufert&plischke invent transdisciplinary spaces in which people spend time. Contrary to a representative understanding of performance, they think of theatre as a place where one can move and through which one can move, as well as a place that changes and develops. Encounter is understood here as a choreography that is jointly-produced and in process.
